DogARC Training (Climbing)
WooFDriver does DogARC Training by climbing mountain roads! The weather and dogs I’m running always determine the pace! What’s so nice about this kind of training is it can usually be done year-round! In warmer weather because we usually do this in the mountains where it’s always a little cooler less humidity then most other areas we would adventure! So the cooler conditions are always nice for the dogs and climbing these mountain areas even at a slow pace is good exercise for them usually without working too hard in warmer conditions! And when conditions are right, bacon climb these areas quicker for an even better workout that will add some cardio! Depending on weather conditions and dogs we will usually do 8 to 12 miles on these climbing exercises and adventures.
About ARC Training
"ARC" in the context of climbing training stands for "Aerobic, Respiration, and Capillarity" training, a method that focuses on building endurance and improving forearm capillary density by climbing at a sustained, low intensity for extended periods. [1, 2, 3]
Here's a breakdown of ARC training:
What it is: [3, 4, 5]
* Goal: To increase the body's ability to climb for longer periods without getting "pumped" (forearm fatigue). [3, 4, 5]
* Method: Climbing easy routes or traversing for 20-45 minutes continuously, maintaining a very light pump in the forearms. [2, 4, 5]
* Focus: Targeting forearm muscles, a critical area for maintaining grip and preventing pump. [3]
* Benefits: Improves climbing endurance, builds a solid foundation for climbing fitness, and enhances forearm capillary density. [2, 3]
How to do it: [4, 5]
* Choose routes/traverses: Select routes or traverses that are easy enough to climb continuously for the desired duration without getting severely pumped. [4, 5]
* Maintain a light pump: The goal is to climb at a sustained effort level that keeps your forearms lightly pumped, but not to the point of complete fatigue. [4, 5]
* Focus on technique: ARC training is a good opportunity to work on footwork, breathing, and other climbing techniques. [5]
* Progressive overload: As you improve, gradually increase the duration and intensity of your ARC sessions. [6]
* Combine with other training: ARC training can be used in conjunction with other climbing training methods, such as strength training and power endurance training. [6]
Why it's important: [3, 4]
* Building endurance: ARC training is a crucial component of building climbing endurance, which is essential for climbing longer routes and staying strong for extended periods. [3, 4]
* Improving forearm capillary density: By consistently climbing at a sustained low intensity, ARC training helps to increase the density of capillaries in the forearms, which improves blood flow and oxygen delivery to the muscles. [2, 3]
* Preventing pump: By improving forearm endurance, ARC training helps to prevent climbers from getting "pumped" out on long routes. [3, 4]
